NCAP Medical Billing Pilot Program

When we talk with pharmacy partners across the state, one message comes through loud and clear: many of you want to step into a stronger provider role by offering clinical services. At the same time, we hear about real and familiar challenges that can make it hard to get started, including:

  • The complexity and administrative burden of billing for clinical services
  • Uncertainty about where to begin and what workflows are actually needed
  • Questions about whether clinical services will deliver a meaningful return on investment
  • Limited time and staff capacity to implement new processes

A Practical Way to Move Forward

That’s why the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists (NCAP) has partnered with MedMe Health to support community pharmacies through a low-risk Clinical Services & Medical Billing Pilot. MedMe Health is a platform built specifically for pharmacies to manage clinical services and medical billing. With built-in, AI-driven tools, it helps pharmacies:

  • Promote clinical services
  • Schedule patients
  • Document care
  • Submit medical claims for services provided under NC statewide protocols

—all in one place.

Who Should Participate in the Pilot?

NCAP is seeking community pharmacies that are already offering clinical services—or are interested in adding and growing medically billable services—to take part in this pilot.

What Pilot Pharmacies Receive

Participating pharmacies will gain access to tools and support designed to reduce friction and save time, including:

  • Pharmacy-specific scheduling with Reserve with Google to help drive appointments
  • Mass email and SMS outreach to inform patients and increase service volume
  • Protocol-aligned digital workflows for intake, consent, eligibility capture, and documentation—aligned with NC statewide protocols such as:
    • Hormonal Contraceptive Prescribing
    • Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) Prescribing
    • Test and Treat for Flu Services
  • AI-powered scribing to reduce manual note-taking
  • Medical billing workflows and performance insights to support reimbursement readines

Make an Informed Decision

After the four-month pilot, participating pharmacies will be able to evaluate whether these services are sustainable and profitable based on their own real-world experience and billing performance data.
