In February 2022, immunizing pharmacists were given authority to dispense, deliver, or administer glucagon for the treatment of severe hypoglycemia. While there is no advanced training required under this provision, NCAP has been committed to providing pharmacists with the resources and information they need in preparing for this new scope of practice. CDC Issues Nationwide Hepatitis-Related Alert
Late last week the CDC issued a
nationwide alert to healthcare providers regarding the occurrence of hepatitis and adenovirus in children.


Another Weapon in the Fight Against Breast Cancer
The FDA has granted the antibody drug conjugate Enhertu (trastuzumab deruxtecan), by AstraZeneca and Daiichi Sankyo, a fifth ‘Breakthrough Therapy’ designation for patients with unresectable or metastatic human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER-2)-low breast cancer who have received certain prior treatments.

Delay in Confirmation of FTC Nominee
Earlier this week, reports were indicating that Federal Trade Commission nominee Alvaro Bedoya would be confirmed by the U.S. Senate. However, COVID-19 infections among U.S. Senators will likely delay Bedoya’s confirmation. This nominee is important because he could tip the scales in favor of an FTC probe into pharmacy benefit managers’ impact on drug prices.

Novant Health’s Innovation Lab
This week, Becker’s Hospital Review published a list of five healthcare innovation centers launched since the beginning of the year. On the list was Novant Health’s innovation lab to create tools and programs that improve care quality and access.
